AIRPORT SECURITY WITH NOONORSE
Author Bio
The first time Diana Lipnick-Feld had to take her shoes off at an airport, she didn’t like it. She thought her feet would get dirty and she was worried about her shoes. Putting her purse in a bin on a conveyor belt was very stressful. Her passport, money and plane ticket were out of her reach. It is so hard to relinquish control over personal items!
Diana is no stranger to travel. She’s lived in London, England; Cairo, Egypt; Paris, France; Oakland, Maryland; and now Los Angeles, California. She’s been making art since 1973 after studying at Université de la Sorbonne, Paris, and Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles.
As a painter, she had always wanted to write and illustrate a children’s book that was painterly and inspired by the pastel and playful palettes of Wayne Thiebaud and Richard Diebenkorn. For the past five years she’s been doing just that.
Her mother bought Noonorse (pronounced no-norse), a stuffed bear, in Paris, France where she lived and asked Diana to bring it back to her great-granddaughter in Oakland, California. Noonorse sat in Diana’s Los Angeles, California art studio where she started to sketch the stuffed animal until she made the excursion up north.
Airport Security with Noonorse virtually came to life while she sat around airports, people gazing and waiting for her plane to depart. Her research was done in situ, through observation and her frequent travels. She began to think about children in airports and their experiences. What happens when the TSA agent takes their backpacks and puts them on the conveyor belt to be scanned? Will it swallow them up? And then, what’s next?
Eventually, she took a class in children’s book making at Santa Monica College and used the idea of a bear going through security and dealing with TSA at the airport. The rest is history!
Book Description
Noonorse and his Mommy navigate the latest airport security requirements as they fly to visit their two friends, Maya and Theo. Traveling is a daunting experience for an adult and a challenging one for children.
This book helps parents prepare their children (ages 2-5) and familiarize them with mandatory airport security requirements before and after boarding the plane.
Noonorse leads the way on and off the plane as sequential illustrations portray the steps that are required, from boarding a flight to stepping on the plane and landing.
Press Release
New Book Introduces Children to the Ins and Outs of Airports and Flying
Being able to show and discuss airport rules and regulations with your children ahead of traveling has never been easier.
Airport Security with Noonorse is now available in hardcover, paperback, and eBook.
(Los Angeles, CA, October 18, 2019) Negotiating airports can be nerve-wracking enough without the added anxiety of bringing children along, but with a bit of insight, it can be a fun family experience.
Airport Security with Noonorse by author/illustrator Diana Lipnick-Feld is a delightful children’s book that introduces kids to a love of travel and flying and will help to minimize any apprehensions they may have.
Beautifully illustrated, Diana has captured the essence of what she recalls of her experiences with airports. “I remember stepping on a plane with my children ages four and six,” she says. “And they were given a winged badge similar to the one that the pilot wore on his uniform. This badge allowed my two daughters to get a tour of the cockpit. What an adventure that was!”
Her book came to life while she sat around terminals, people watching and waiting for her plane to depart. She began to think about children in airports and their experiences. What happens when the TSA agent takes their backpacks and puts them on the conveyor belt to be scanned? Will it swallow them up? And then, what’s next?
This 70-page book with 32 full-color illustrations includes game recognition pages that decode airport symbols and a vocabulary of common terms associated with travel.
